Osteopathy

Osteopaths are university-trained Allied Health Professionals registered with the Australian Healthcare Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Sophie completed extensive training in anatomy, physiology, pathology, general healthcare diagnosis, and osteopathic techniques over five years and two degrees.

Osteopathic philosophy is focused on preventative medicine. We believe that if people move well, they can more easily engage in the behaviours that keep them healthy.

Pain is draining, and restricted movement and muscle tension may lead to poor movement patterns, impact sleep, and make it harder to cope with pain.

Osteopathic treatment aims to help you recover from injury, reduce pain and stiffness, increase mobility and prevent further injury. Osteopaths listen to your needs and use a range of assessments to develop an evidence informed treatment programme tailored to your individual condition.

Osteopaths use a holistic approach

Osteopaths treat the whole body and are clinically trained to provide:

• Musculoskeletal and nervous system assessments to identify what may be happening in the body

• Manual therapy including a range of hands-on techniques that may provide relief from musculoskeletal pain, discomfort, and support the tissues of the body

• Movement, postural, and positioning advice, including ergonomic assessment that may reduce or prevent ongoing pain or injury

• Therapeutic needling techniques including dry needling or trigger point therapy

• Advice about your lifestyle including stress management, diet or other factors that may influence your pain, injury or movement

Dry needling

When combined with osteopathy, dry needling may be an effective way to treat the following conditions:

  • ·      Rotator cuff and shoulder issues.

    ·      Acute ligamentous strain (ankle, knee, wrist).

    ·      Tendinitis.

    ·      Tennis elbow.

    ·      Wrist and repetitive strain problems.

    ·      Chronic muscular tension.

    ·      Sciatica and gluteal pain.

Dry needling can be used to strengthen tendons and ligaments, deactivate trigger points, stimulate healing by promoting blood supply, and utilise reflex mechanisms to reset motor and nerve control.
